I love baths; they are so relaxing! This is my first week officially back from the cottage! I don’t usually take baths up there, but since coming back, I’ve been taking baths almost every night to reap the benefits of Epsom salts, which help detoxify, boost the immune system, relieve aches, and increase magnesium. In addition to adding Epsom salts to my baths, I also like to add a little baking soda, coconut oil, and essential oils for the benefits they provide. Now you can bring this to the next level! I’ve been going crazy making bath bombs these past few weeks. They are very popular, and you can make your own with this bath-bomb recipe.
For the upcoming holidays, this might be the start of making some healthy, safe, handmade gifts. Your family and friends will be so grateful. This bath-bomb recipe combines all of the beneficial ingredients I mentioned above into one fizzy ball.
I love to keep them in a glass mason jar next to my tub. Then when I’m ready for a relaxing bath, all I need to do is drop one in. You might be wondering what’s in these bath bombs. The primary ingredients are baking soda, Epsom salts, citric acid, coconut oil, and witch hazel. For your convenience, I’ve listed each ingredient with it's benefits.
Baking Soda — I love to add baking soda to my bath because it aids in drawing out toxins from your body. In addition to removing toxins, it also aids in alkalizing your body and helps treat common skin problems: kills fungi, mold, and parasites; reduces the duration of colds and flus; helps pH balance the body; reduces the symptoms of gout; promotes kidney health; treats urinary tract infections; and reduces muscle pain and fatigue.
Epsom Salts — Many people are deficient in magnesium, and Epsom salt baths are a great way to increase magnesium levels. When you bathe in Epsom salts, the magnesium and sulfates are absorbed into the skin, pulling out harmful toxins from your body.
Some of the health benefits of magnesium include fighting inflammation, increasing blood flow, and improving oxygenation in the body. Epsom salts help conditions like sprains and bruises, athlete’s foot, toenail fungus, and gout.
Coconut Oil — There are so many benefits of coconut oil, which is why I included it as an ingredient in my bath-bomb recipe. You can get so many health benefits by adding it to your bath.
Not only does it help your body by improving your immune system, but it also helps to
moisturize and smooth your skin. It is also very soothing and healing to many skin conditions, such as eczema and acne.
Citric Acid — For this bath-bomb recipe I use citric acid, which gives the bomb its fizz. It is a natural acid that is found in fruits and vegetables such as lemons, and it is often used as a food additive.
When applied to skin, citric acid can slough off dead skin cells and speed new cell turnover. It promotes new skin growth that can help alleviate the appearance of age spots, acne scars, small wrinkles, and areas of uneven tone and texture.
Witch Hazel — This is one of my favorite skin care ingredients! It is a multi-purpose remedy that can help with a wide variety of skin conditions. It is often recommended for spot treating acne, soothing dry skin or itching, and removing makeup, but it is good for so many things!
Essential Oil Combinations:
Lavender essential oil is a great all-around essential oil. Its soothing fragrance helps relieve anxiety and stress. It can help to lull you to sleep, and it even improves eczema and psoriasis.
The Lavender Detox Bath Bomb incorporates all of these benefits into one handy bath recipe.
Lemon-Rosemary essential oils incorporates the essential oils of rosemary and lemon, as well as fresh lemon zest, to make the
Lemon-Rosemary Bath Bomb a great-smelling way to detox and refresh at the same time.
In addition, rosemary oil has its own special powers; it helps improve memory, ease the digestive system, and relieve aches and pains in your muscles.
Lavender-Eucalyptus essential oils combine the power of lavender with the health benefits of eucalyptus oil, which includes helping fight colds, respiratory problems, and the flu.
It also is effective at treating sinus and allergy symptoms, as well as antimicrobial applications. Enjoy the therapeutic benefits of soaking in a bath with a Lavender- Eucalyptus Bath Bomb. Draw this bath on a cold day when you have the sniffles. It’s perfect for an evening pick-me- up.
Poison-Releasing Bath Bomb uses essential oils that are reputed to help rid your body of toxins and heal at the same time. I find that doing things that are for you and you alone can help with the detoxification process.
A few of the healing benefits include antiseptic, antispasmodic, antitoxic, depurative, and detoxifying properties.
The oils employed in this bath bomb recipe include these essential oils: lavender, lemon, and juniper berry. Did you know that juniper berry oil has been used throughout history as a ritual ingredient to protect and as a shield against plagues and diseases?
It’s been found among ruins in ancient civilizations. And in England, juniper oil was used to ward off evil and witches.
Eucalyptus-Peppermint essential oils used together create a Cold and Flu Bath Bomb. Simply use the basic bath-bomb recipe above, and mix eucalyptus essential oil and peppermint essential oil into the liquid blend.
Eucalyptus contains eucalyptol and alpha terpineol oils, which increase respiratory function and promote easy breathing.
The peppermint is calming to your digestive system, quiets nausea, and reduces stomachaches. It will also do a great job opening up your nasal passages.
Important! One thing to keep in mind is that not all essential oils are created equally! These volatile liquids are distilled from plants, and many things can affect their chemical makeup: soil conditions, temperature, harvest season and method, and climate.
To get the best therapeutic results, always use certified, pure therapeutic-grade oils.
Using Your Bath Bombs
Here are a few points you’ll want to remember about using and getting the maximum benefit from your bath bombs:
For a bathtub, fill your tub with water that is a comfortable temperature. Get into the tub and drop your bath bomb into the water. The bath bomb will begin to fizz, and it will release those wonderful natural scents. Sit back, relax, and enjoy!
For a shower, turn on the water, get in, and place a bath bomb in a position near your feet so the water can directly hit it. As it begins to fizz, healing essential oil molecules will fill your bathroom and your lungs.
One experience with these healthy bath bombs will show you that it is worth taking the time to make your own! What we breathe and put onto our skin does matter. You can be proactive in protecting your health from upstream toxins.
You can start by following my recipes. Then you can create your own!
Bath-Bomb Molds You can get bath-bomb molds at Amazon and Michaels. I order mine from Saffire Blue; they are a little more expensive but much more durable.
