Unless you’re living in a sterile bubble, your body is being exposed to toxins and chemicals simply through everyday living. It’s just a fact of modern day society. Our bodies are under constant attack by toxic substances in the foods we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe.
Fortunately, our bodies are exquisitely designed with several organs and systems of detoxification. Did you know that the liver and gallbladder are two of the body’s main detoxifying organs? Along with the colon, kidneys, skin, lungs, and other systems, the liver and gallbladder help to eliminate toxic waste and chemicals from the body.
That’s why it’s so important to keep your liver and gallbladder in tip-top shape through a regular, liver detox regimen.
With as many pollutants as our bodies handle every day, it’s easy for the liver and gallbladder to become overwhelmed; and if they aren’t functioning properly, then a healthy diet and regular exercise may not be enough to keep you fit and well. A sluggish liver can cause you to gain weight, retain water, and slow the elimination of toxins from the body.
That’s why I encourage regular cleansing of the body’s internal organs and systems.
A liver detox helps to cleanse the liver and gallbladder, and to optimize your body’s performance. It helps to keep these organs in good working order and can improve digestion and regularity, as well as immune system functioning.
So what’s the best way to perform a liver detox? Start by drinking a glass of freshly squeezed lemon juice in warm water every morning. This simple act can help to cleanse the body and detoxify the liver. And, when you cleanse the liver, you’re also stimulating bile production as well as bowel motion.
Here’s a great recipe for a revitalizing, morning liver detox. This drink will help to cleanse mucus, fermentation, and inflammation from your digestive tract.
- 1 large grapefruit
- 2 lemons
- 1 cup of filtered water
- 1 tablespoon cold-pressed flax seed oil
- 1 inch fresh ginger root
- Dash of cayenne pepper (optional)
Juice the ingredients, and blend juices until smooth.
Enjoy the drink, and know that you’re giving your liver and gallbladder a fresh start and a healthy boost!

I wonder if apple cider vinegar with the mother could be used in place of the lemon? Are they both acidic?

Hello June, Lemons are one of the only “anionic” foods, meaning the possess a greater number of negative ions than positive ones. Most of the fluids produced by the digestive system (such as bile, stomach acid, and saliva) are also anionic, so lemon juice is quite compatible with your digestive system.
