Jesse, our son who moved to Australia two years ago, is with us this week at the cottage. And oh, boy! – it’s always an adventure when he comes up to visit.

Here we were, sitting around talking, when I asked Jesse about something I used to quiz him about all the time he was growing up: Did he have a bowel movement today? That question drove him crazy when he was young – he was so embarrassed! For me, this was part of a normal conversation!

Well, Jesse is all grown up now and he does realize – finally! – how important it is to eliminate at least once or twice a day. Of course, if Jesse knew I was sharing this with you this week, he’d probably still be embarrassed – but hey, isn’t that what mothers are for?

But there is a purpose to all this bathroom talk. I’m bringing it up not as a nosy mother, but as a nutritionist. Because it’s become so normal for me to hear clients tell me they only eliminate twice a week. That is NOT normal. In fact, it’s downright scary. If this is you, you have to do something about it – fast!
