The Power of Growing Your Own Food

We Canadians are getting close to winter, so this can be challenging. However, the point I am getting at here is that you can start planning today for next summer! How much food can you grow in your own backyard and even in your kitchen?

I hardly go to the grocery store anymore because I get so discouraged when I look at the quality of the food, even organic! It’s not even fresh-looking. I rely most of the time on farmer’s market/ local farm and whole food markets and produce  when I get chance to go into the city.

This is our biggest dream, that my husband and I are able to live off our land as much as possible. Now we live off the grid and get our power from solar and windmill. This year has been my second year gardening! So grateful for the opportunity and would not choose any other way of living.

Let me know what you thought about the clip.

I saw this video quite a while ago – these people are amazing – they only have a small plot and even grow enough produce to sell to restaurants. I’m so envious of people who can do this and good for you and your husband, Nancy, for taking advantage of your home in Bancroft to live off the grid and grow your veggies. I plan to do the same one day. It would be nice, though, to be able to grow them all the year round outdoors like Mike Adams does in Vilcabamba methinks!!!
But for now, I’m happy to grow a few herbs and sometimes tomatoes on my balcony in the summer even though they are visited by many pigeons, who seem to love them also. Ann

Hi Ann, What a motivating video. I grew up on 70 acres, when I was very young – and I still remember the incredible smell of fresh tomatoes and eating peas right out of the shell – pure heaven! Diana
