Winter Squash is a member of the Gourd Family. Winter squashes are warm, alkaline, and sweet. They are nourishing to deficiency, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, energy and immune tonics. Squashes clear toxins from the body, nourish the stomach and spleen. Their high antioxidant content helps prevent bladder, lung, skin, and stomach cancers, stroke and heart disease. They have been used to improve vision, reduce cataracts, treat bladder infections, lower cholesterol, improve dry skin, and promote weight gain. Winter squashes are high in beta-carotene, vitamin C, folic acid, magnesium, potassium, sodium, carbohydrates, and fiber. Read More

Raw Summer Italian Soup
1 avocado (add more for extra creaminess)
4 tomatoes, skinned
A generous bunch of basil
1/4 of a cup of cold pressed oil (olive, hemp or blend)
All you have to do is put the avocado (peeled and stoned), skinned
tomato, basil and oil into a blender and whizz until smooth. For extra
smoothness you can put through a sieve (removes the tomato pips). I
also like to have a drizzle of oil on the top and also to rip a few
extra basil leaves on top (because I love basil!).
Serve either chilled, or slightly warmed.
This is another great quick, easy and tasty
soup to eat when either cleansing or maintaining an alkaline diet. It
is a lot lighter than some of the other alkaline raw soups, so it is
more spring/summer.
