Toxic Hunger: Overfed, Yet Malnourished with Dr Joel Fuhrman

Last week I interviewed Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Toxic Hunger: Overfed, Yet Malnourished: Here’s an excerpt of what he talked about:

In his last 20 years He discovered something new in the field of nutritional science that explains that the amount of food you desire and your desire to eat and overeat is dependent on the type of nutrients and nutritional quality of what you eat.

It’s not just how much you eat. When you diet and your micro-nutrient needs aren’t properly met, you build up more toxic waste products in your tissues, like free radicals and advanced glycation end products and lipofuscin.

How do you get inflammation? Where does inflammation come from?

Last week during my interview with one of my favorite guests,   Raymond Francis, an MIT-trained scientist and author of the books Never Be Sick Again, Never Be Fat Again, we talked about how to avoid inflammation.

One of the questions I asked him was:

What were the results of his latest research since our last interview? Here’s what he said: Read the rest or post a comment >>

How Diet and Lifestyle can Create a Dangerous Magnesium Deficiency

Do we need to take magnesium? The answer is YES. According to Dr. Norman Shealy, every known

illness is associated with a magnesium deficiency and low levels of the hormone DHEA.

DHEA is the health and youth hormone. If DHEA is low, magnesium is low. They go together.

Even a 10% increase in magnesium and DHEA levels is associated with a 48% decrease in death from cardiovascular disease and a 36% decrease in mortality – from all causes. READ MORE

What About Grass-Fed Beef?

I always encourage people to eat a more vegetarian / live food diet. That means staying away from animal protein if at all possible. But, if you want to keep meat in your diet, try to do it in the healthiest way possible. When it comes to eating beef, I strongly recommend that you consume only “organic” and “grass-fed” beef. It makes a world of difference to your body because beef that you purchase in the grocery stores, even corn-fed beef, is filled with antibiotics and growth hormones.

Non Dairy Foods High in Calcium

If I don’t eat dairy, how do I get enough calcium? You get lots of calcium from various vegetables, especially green leafy vegetables such as kale, as well as broccoli and sesame seeds. Calcium is readily available in many foods. Better yet, these foods are alkaline producing, so the body can actually use the calcium it gets from them.

Dairy products actually do not provide sufficient calcium. The countries with the highest dairy consumption are also the ones with highest osteoporosis levels! Dairy is one of the most acidic foods on the pH scale and calcium is the number one mineral the body uses to buffer against excess acidity.

There is just never enough calcium in any dairy product to offset the acid-producing effect it has. So you actually end up losing calcium when you eat dairy products, not gaining it! Shocking, right? Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to drink your milk in order to get your calcium.

Here are  foods high in calcium that don’t come from a cow: Read More
