Top 10 Simple Ways to Detox Your Body This Summer

Stay home (or go away) and do a juice fast: Juice fasting is a great way to tune up the body from the inside out. While it cleanses your internal organs and systems, it also promotes weight loss, makes your skin glow, and leaves you feeling energized.

Once you introduce juice fasting into your life routine, you’ll start to notice positive changes on all levels of your being. You may feel more physically energized, more mentally alert, or your moods may be lighter and brighter.

2. Sweat. In a sauna (not a steam room — too much chlorine is in the steam), or a hot yoga class, or in a hot bath followed a snuggling under warm covers, let yourself sweat. It helps the skin, your largest organ of detoxification, do its job.

4. Rebound, i.e., bounce on a mini-trampoline. All exercise is good, of course, but a mini-tram is supposed to particularly target the lymphatic system and help it do its clean-up tasks. The lymphatic system has no pump like the heart, so it can use some help. I do my 5-minute warm-up at the gym on a mini-tram.

5. Scrape your tongue first thing in the morning. Your body does a lot of detoxing during sleep, and that coating on your tongue when you wake up (in Ayurveda, they call it ama, metabolic debris) needs to come off before your first drink of water. They sell inexpensive tongue scrapers in the dental care aisle at health food stores and many drugstores.

6. Use a neti pot. The yogis have long recommended “sinus bathing” as a part of enlightened hygiene, and you can purchase a neti pot (beautiful ceramic ones and low-cost plastic models) at most health food stores. You fill it with warm water made into a saline solution by the addition of some finely ground salt and, following instructions, let the water flow into one nostril and out the other; then do the other side. This is not always a pleasant experience, but it definitely clears your head, is a godsend during allergy season, and I swear by it after plane flights and when colds and flus are going around.

7. Dry body brush. Before your bath or shower, use a special dry body brush (ask at the health food store: this is a brush with a removable handle, meant to be used on dry body skin) to buff your skin, starting with the feet. Then work up, using upward strokes on the calves and thighs, fingers-to-shoulders moves on your arms, and gentler round motions on your abdomen, hips, and chest; this is not for the face. It helps the skin to detox, removes dead skin cells, is warming and energizing, and in Europe even standard MDs claim that it helps diminish cellulite.

8. Enemas and colonics. I include these because they’re standard-issue detox practices and many, many people swear by them. They say that we have toxic build-up in the colon that’s been there for years and needs to be washed out.

9. Get away to somewhere clean and quiet. By “clean,” I mean where the air is pure (mountains, ocean) and where electro-magnetic-field radiation is at a minimum. Some people are irritated that they can’t get much cell phone reception, but it’s really a blessing. If you can get away for even one weekend a season, it’ll help.

10. Eat raw food and think loving thoughts. Okay, that’s two suggestions, but seriously: just eating a high-raw, plant-based diet, even without fasting or a juice diet, will go far toward your detoxification efforts. If you find yourself having a “detox crisis” — headaches, fatigue — rest, eat lightly, and let it pass, or rest, eat more heavily (add in more cooked food), and slow down the detox process to a comfortable rate. And your thoughts are ever important: make them loving, to yourself, your body, and everyone in your world. That way, you detox negativity from deep, deep inside.

Change Your Diet — Change Your Health — Change Your Life

We know that we need to change our diets to avoid sugar, dairy, processed oils and white flour. These products can cause aging and disease, and their elimination can cause miraculous healing in those who are suffering  from chronic diseases.

These elements promote inflammation and can really do a number on arteries and tissue throughout your body. Make no mistake about it. Sugar and flour are deadly and can ruin your life. in an average year, 160 pounds of sugar and 200 pounds of white flour find their way into our bodies, and our children are exposed to them from an early age.

They build up an addiction resulting in life-long health problems and elevated blood sugar levels.

When our blood sugar level increases, free radicals begin the process of inflammation right away and the disease process ensues. it’s very difficult to avoid these poisons, as they’re included in all kinds of foods within our “staple” diet — breakfast cereals, cakes, pasta, bread, soft drinks, candy . . . it’s really sad!

These days, milk products are also culprits as modern herds eat tainted grain that affects the proportions of fatty acids in the milk. Omega-3 fats are stripped and an imbalance is created.

Did you know that every other one of us is thought to be allergic to dairy, often without knowing it?

Our dietary position gets worse, as our intake of fats and oils contains excessive omega-6 fatty acids. reaction after reaction takes place within our bodies, causing chronic inflammation. if we consume them in equal balance as we once did, there would not be so much of a problem, but the sad truth is that we ingest up to 30 times as much omega-6 as we do omega-3.

If you experience depression, a quick dietary improvement you can make is to change the quality of the oil you use. i would suggest you start making your own salad dressings using extra virgin olive oil or flaxseed oil.

Many of the standard oils we use are creating inflammation within our bodies. Particularly toxic are oils such as canola, soy and safflower oils when they are heated to high temperatures.

It doesn’t stop there, as grain-fed beef, poultry and farmed fish have excessive omega-6 fatty acids as well. it all stacks up to a huge excess of inflammatory compounds. As inflammation continues, disease results and the only way to avoid this is to replace poor choices with healthy fats and oils.

Within the last couple of generations, we have markedly changed the way that we consume foods and we are setting ourselves up for serious and considerable problems.

The nutrients we need are removed from processed foods — basically anything that comes in a box, can or a jar. in place, we add preservatives, artificial flavors and colors, or toxins, making our bodies work extremely hard to try and detoxify, and causing a serious problem if we try and lose weight.

Other elements added to our foods are causing us to gain weight.

Processed foods contain dangerous trans fats, high fructose corn syrup and neurotoxins such as aspartame.

Chemicals proliferate in our food system as we try and maintain a more functional distribution and production system. Just think of all those pesticides, fungicides, larvacides and insecticides that find their way into our bodies. Our foods are low in nutrients, but high in calories and chemicals. You will feel drained, pack on weight and become lethargic thanks to a lack of nutrients in your foods combined with a plethora of dangerous food additives.

Trying to lose weight is such a problem, and here are some of the major mistakes that i see people making when they set out down this road.

If  you believe that everything is fine in moderation, then you are completely mistaken. Everything is not fine and you must be selective, very selective in what you eat.

You see, after the Second World War, chemicals intended for battle were diverted for use in pest control on our fields.

Back then, there was no real process for testing and these chemicals just continued to find their way into our food chain. Due to what we thought was a major breakthrough, we began to neglect the fact that the soil was not as healthy in terms of nutrients as it once was.

The end result: nutrients out, Pollution in. Just remember that when your body is actively trying to resist toxins, it’s not focusing on keeping you active, energized and in good shape. You need to get out of this vicious cycle and we  will help you to try and do just this.

Toxic Chemicals in Food That are Causing us to Gain Weight

Within the last couple of generations, we have markedly changed the way that we consume foods and, at this point, we are setting ourselves up for a great many serious, long term Problems.

The nutrients we need are removed from processed foods — basically anything that comes in a box, can or jar.

In place of these essential substances, we add preservatives, artificial flavors and colors — or toxins, which make our bodies work extremely hard to try and detoxify, and even worse, Those Toxic Chemicals in Food That are Causing us to Gain Weight

Some of the other elements added to our foods that are causing us to gain weight are dangerous trans fats, high fructose corn syrup and neurotoxins such as aspartame.

Chemicals proliferate in our food system as we try and maintain a more functional distribution and production system. Just think of all those pesticides, fungicides, larvacides and insecticides that find their way into our bodies.

Our foods are low in nutrients, but high in calories and chemicals. Through regularly consuming an average diet, you’ll invariably feel drained, pack on weight and be lethargic.

Trying to lose weight is such a problem for people everywhere these days, and here’s one of the major mistakes that I see people making:

If  you believe that everything is fine in moderation, then you’re completely mistaken. Everything is not fine and you must be selective, very selective in what you eat.

It’s so incredibly difficult to believe that at one time all our foods were completely organic. They weren’t treated with chemical agents, irradiated or subjected to additional hormones or fertilizers.

The foods we eat now are very different compared to what our grandparents were eating. the  simple fact of It all: if your body is using its resources to push out toxins, it’s not doing what it was meant to . . . generating a vibrant and vital force which keeps you slim, energetic and looking years younger than your actual age.

How Diet and Lifestyle can Create a Dangerous Magnesium Deficiency

According to Dr. Norman Shealy, every known illness is associated with a magnesium deficiency and low levels of the hormone DHEA. DHEA is the health and youth hormone. If DHEA is low, magnesium is low.

They go together. Even a 10% increase in magnesium and DHEA levels is associated with a 48% decrease in death from cardiovascular disease and a 36% decrease in mortality: from all causes. The human being has the only body that has a significant level of DHEA.

There is a long list of DHEA/magnesium deficiency symptoms. They are anxiety, hyperactivity, confusion, depression, diarrhea or constipation, faintness, fatigue, hyperventilation, lack of coordination, insomnia, intestinal problems, muscle cramps, muscle tightness, pain, poor memory, seizures, tinnitus and vertigo; and these are just the symptoms!

Diseases associated with DHEA/ magnesium deficiency include asthma, atherosclerosis, cancer, chronic fatigue, chronic bronchitis, congestive heart failure, depression, diabetes, emphysema, hypertension, intermittent claudication (leg calf pain), kidney stones, migraine, osteoporosis, panic attacks, PMS (premenstrual syndrome), benign prostate hypertrophy and strokes.

Here’s an insert for my interview  with Dr. Norman Shealy

First of all, most people don’t eat enough green vegetables, which are a major source of magnesium. Second, our soil is rather highly depleted, except here on our farm and a few like it. It’s just not in the soil. In fact, cattle farmers have known for many decades that if they do not add magnesium to the feed of their cattle, the cattle will die of something called grass staggers, which looks almost like epilepsy. It just isn’t that available.

In addition, the absorption of magnesium takes place mostly in the large intestine, so if your gut transit time, the time from mouth to out, is less than 12 hours, you don’t absorb it well. There are other things that interfere with the absorption of magnesium, like too much calcium and fat. Do you know how you make lye soap? You mix fat with lye, calcium, and magnesium. You have what I call an internal soap-suds enema if you have a lot of fat in your diet when you’re getting your magnesium in.

Magnesium absorption: We’ve found that orally, it’s extremely poorly absorbed. It takes up to 12 months to get your cell levels back up to normal trying any of the oral preparations. The best one is magnesium taurate, which is magnesium attached to a taurine molecule. For over 10 years, we gave every patient 10 shots IV, two grams of magnesium chloride.

Then we discovered about 10 years ago that if we actually use magnesium chloride in a lotion on the skin, within four to six weeks, you can replace your intercellular magnesium levels. That is 10 to 12 times faster than doing it orally. The other thing that’s really interesting is that giving it IV or orally does not raise DHEA, or Dehydroepiandrosterone. Giving it through the skin does raise DHEA as well as magnesium levels. In fact, that’s one of my patents. About Magnesium GEL Read more

Acid/Alkaline Balance in the Human Body

Have you ever wondered if there is a common cause of disease? Many doctors, herbalists and nutritionists believe that the explanation may come down to three words: acid/alkaline imbalance.

Today, over-acidity is quite common; it’s a dangerous condition that weakens your body’s systems. While a healthy body maintains adequate alkaline reserves to meet its emergency needs, an excess of acid must be neutralized.

Unfortunately, depleted alkaline reserves leave the body weakened, and healthy cells begin to die prematurely. According to many experts, an acid/alkaline balanced diet is the key to staying healthy.

The concept of acid/alkaline imbalance as the cause of disease is not new. in 1933, a new York doctor named William Howard Hay published a groundbreaking book, A New Health Era,  in which he said that all disease is caused by autotoxication (or self-poisoning), due to acid accumulation in the body.

While suffering from unbalanced pH, you are acidic, which is a condition that forces your body to borrow minerals — including calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium — from vital organs and bones to neutralize the acid and safely remove it from your body.

This is a strain on your body which can cause you to suffer severe and prolonged damage due to high acidity — a condition sometimes undetected for years.

Recognizing that your body is a complex system, you need to strike a delicate balance between acidity and alkalinity. Proper acid/ alkaline balance can vary from individual to individual.

Experts set a goal of a pH number of 7.4 for optimal health. Any numbers below that mean you have entered a state of acidity, opening yourself up to a host of health problems, conditions and diseases. Some aspects of your acidity or alkalinity are out of your control due to the finite amount of alkaline material with which you were born; and personal choices that you make on a day-to-day basis can play an even larger role in your overall health.

For instance, decisions about whether or not to consume alcohol or tobacco products impact the alkaline balance. These products are very acidic.

Meanwhile, the human body has stores of minerals upon which it draws for alkaline material on an as-needed basis — if it cannot obtain them through diet. As discussed previously, they are sodium, calcium, potassium and magnesium.

An acidic system can create a vicious cycle that saps energy, depletes minerals and nutrients, and causes a multitude of potentially life-threatening conditions and diseases. Research has shown acidic pH levels to be chief causes of obesity, migraine headaches, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and even cancer.

A Slower Metabolism

When your body is overly acidic, your metabolism rate can slow down, and it can even become difficult for your digestive system to break down fatty acids. When this happens, the brain and central nervous system cannot properly function. Over time, you can develop severe neurological problems such as depression, bipolar disorder and other, more severe, mental problems. Multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease have
also been linked to not maintaining a healthy balance of alkalinity.

A recent 7-year study conducted at the university of California, in San Francisco, on 9,000 women showed that those who have chronic acidosis are at greater risk for bone loss than those who have normal pH levels.

The scientists who carried out this experiment believe that many of the hip fractures common among middle-aged women are connected to high acidity caused by a diet rich in animal foods and low in vegetables.

This is because the body borrows calcium from the bones in order to balance pH (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition).

As women, we all want to live healthier, more vibrant lives, but because our busy lives demand so much of us, we tend to skip exercise and make poor dietary choices, and our health suffers greatly as a result.

As our pH becomes more and more unbalanced, we tend to crave more acid-forming foods. Look for these signs and symptoms of acidity: Sunken eyes, bad breath, water retention and foul-smelling stools are some of the more prominent signs and symptoms that your body is too acidic. Some other warning signs are rheumatoid arthritis, constipation and diarrhea, and excessively low blood pressure.

To continue living, our bodies must continually regenerate cells, and a healthy cell cannot be acidic and properly regenerate. A cancerous cell must be acidic. if your body is in a constant state of over-acidification, it becomes impossible for healthy cells to regenerate. Cancer cells will thrive in this overly acidic environment. By taking action to become more alkaline, you can help make it more difficult for cancer cells to regenerate. So, as those cells die, they will be replaced with new, healthy cells.

Your outlook and thoughts Play a Part as Well.
When you spend a large part of your time with negative feelings or angry thoughts, it makes your body more acidic. The good news is that this is fairly easy to fix through prayer, yoga or meditation (deep breathing). not only will you feel better, your alkalinity will increase, and you’ll be more pleasant to be around — and that’s a good thing! you can change the balance!

Strive for about 80% of your food intake to be alkaline-forming and 20% to be acid-forming. Most of your body’s fluids, such as the blood, saliva, bile and even urine, function best when they are alkaline. When your body enters a state of acidity, the lungs, kidneys, intestines, liver
and skin must work harder.

Because all meats have a pH of less than 7, they are acid-forming. You should eat very little meat. Other foods such as pastas, breads, all dairy products, red sauces (such as those used in pasta dishes), chocolate and refined sugars also fall into the category of acid-forming. it’s important to introduce alkaline-forming foods into your diet.

Many fresh and raw vegetables, salad greens, seeds and nuts can fill out your menu of alkaline-forming foods and are a tasty path to healthier living. if you can, always choose organic fruits and vegetables.

Improving your diet, avoiding alcoholic beverages, not smoking and getting enough rest are good ways to help bring your body into the proper balance of acidity and alkalinity.

None of these measures alone will result in a perfect pH balance overnight. But by taking action now, in just a few of these areas, you’ll have a dramatic and positive impact on your health, and on your overall sense of well-being.

You’ll look better, you’ll feel better, and you’ll be better positioned to live a longer, healthier life regardless of the cards that Mother nature dealt you!
Maintain a diet of 80% alkaline-forming and 20% acid-forming foods.

When you have a healthy digestive system and your diet consists of whole, raw, live foods, it’s next to impossible to gain weight!

Imagine eating whenever you’re hungry, and eating as much as you want! You can if it’s a whole, live food diet and, in most cases, you won’t gain an ounce.
